Every November, the ancient desert town of Pushkar in Rajasthan transforms into the most spectacular gathering on Earth. Nomadic traders in bright turbans lead decorated camel caravans across golden sand dunes. Folk musicians fill the evening air. Acrobats, snake charmers, and Kalbelia dancers perform simultaneously on the fairground. And on the night of the full moon, thousands of oil lamps are set floating on a sacred lake their reflections shimmering across the water as 400,000 people murmur prayers into the desert night.
