Hemkund sahib and the valley of flowers are two of the most beautiful places in the entire Indian Himalayas and both hold religious significance. Hemkund Sahib, the most important religious place for Sikhs, is situated at a height of 4,632 meters (15,197 feet). It has the exquisite glacial lake nestled on the backdrop of seven magnificent snowy topped mountains. The gurudwara is dedicated to Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, and the serene location allows for meditation and prayer.

Historical and Cultural Importance

It was recognized by a Sikh historian and author Bhai Santokh Singh The construction of the gurudwara was set here in the middle part of the 20th century. The gurudwara’s architectural structure is a unique star shaped white building and highly contrasting with the snow surrounding it. This is a sacred place for Sikhs where the Guru Granth Sahib is read; there is also Langar here where people are served meals.

Spiritual Significance

Hemkund Sahib holds immense importance in Sikhism due to its association with Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru. According to the Sikh holy scriptures, Guru Gobind Singh meditated at this serene location in his previous incarnation. The name “Hemkund” translates to “Lake of Snow,” which aptly describes the glacial lake situated next to the gurudwara. The valley also supports diverse fauna, including the elusive snow leopard and Himalayan monal.

According to Hindu mythology, the valley is believed to be the place where Hanuman found the magical herb Sanjeevani to revive Lakshman, the brother of Lord Rama, during the epic battle in the Ramayana. Day 1: Arrival in Rishikesh
 
Arrival: Reach Rishikesh by evening. Rishikesh is well-connected by road, rail, and air (via Dehradun).

Day 2: Rishikesh to Joshimath
 
Depart early in the morning to make the most of the day
Enjoy scenic views of the Himalayan foothills, river confluences, and quaint towns along the way and Stop at Devprayag to see the confluence of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers, forming the Ganges.

Day 3: Joshimath to Govindghat and Trek to Ghangaria
 
Drive to Govindghat in the morning and From Govindghat, take a shared jeep to Pulna. Begin the trek from Pulna to Ghangaria, enjoying the natural beauty and serene environment.

Day 4: Ghangaria to Valley of Flowers and Back
 
Start early to trek to the Valley of Flowers and Explore the vibrant meadows of alpine flowers, streams, and the rich biodiversity. Return to Ghangaria by late afternoon.

Day 5: Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib and Back
 
Begin the trek to Hemkund Sahib early in the morning. Visit the Sikh shrine located at an altitude of 4,632 meters, surrounded by snow-clad peaks. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and pristine surroundings before trekking back to Ghangaria.

Day 6: Ghangaria to Govindghat and Drive to Joshimath
 
Trek back from Ghangaria to Govindghat. Drive to Joshimath upon reaching Govindghat. Relax and unwind after the trek.

Day 7: Joshimath to Rishikesh
 
Depart early from Joshimath to reach Rishikesh by evening.Enjoy the scenic drive, with possible stops for refreshments and photography.
